Today we went to Edmund Rice Secondary School. We shadowed students for the whole day. It was interesting to see what a school in another country is like. I shadowed a kid named Ignas Mtui. Students have the option to board, board just during the week, or attend as a day student. Some kids, like Ignas, have to walk 2 hours every day to get to school in addition to 2 hours back home. The education system in Tanzania is slightly different then the US's system. Primary school is grades 1-7. (Kindergarten doesn't really exist, and preschool is beginning to get more popular). Secondary school is a total of 6 years. It is divided into 2 different levels, O and A. Level O is like grades 8-11, and Level A is like grade 12 and one year of college prep. The school year is longer for students in Tanzania. Here are some photos of the school:
