Saturday, July 9

We landed in Tanzania! I think it was 1 in the morning (I sort of stopped keeping track of time) when we landed. We got to the Spiritan House at 3am because we had to go through customs, get our bags, etc. Once we got there we went right to sleep. Here are pictures of the Spiritan House:

Later in the day we visited St. Elizabeth's Hospital. It was very different from a hospital in the United States. We don't really realize how fortunate we are to have such advanced medical facilities. Here are some pictures of the hospital:

The Hospital.

This is the sign from the street.

A new addition to the hospital.

An operating room.

Medical equipment.

A sink in an examination room.

Baby twins that were recently born.

An examination room/supply cleaning room.

After we visited the hospital we went to get our money exchanged. The currency in Tanzania is called the Tanzanian Schilling. About 1550 schillings is equivalent to 1 US Dollar. Next we went to SHOPRITE to buy things we forgot to pack. Here is a picture of the SHOPRITE:

For dinner we went to the Mshomba's home in the village of Sinon. The village does not have any paved roads; only the city has paved roads. The meal was cooked by Mr. Mshomba's sister-in-law. It was really good:
